Filing and grand finds

So, last year I was told I would be moving to K.  I came to grips with it and started packing up.  My filing cabinet was one of the first things I packed so I would be sure things got where I needed them to go....Well about a week before school got out, I was told I was staying in first.  Although I am thrilled, I have had to unpack.  Here is a before and after picture of one of my file drawers.

Great posters left from the previous teacher.....In honor of Water for Elephants (a very disturbing movie)

Circus time anyone?  We'd love to check with American Pickers to see if these posters are worth anything.

Wow....One of my favorites found.

Help?

Hello to my 8 followers.  I'd love to really get my blog going, but there is so much I need to learn.  My first problem....how do I center my title?  Better yet, how do I make one of those super cute banners?  Thanks so much.  I hope to share many more pictures and ideas from my classroom soon.

A special treat

In honor of my blog title, I found this and thought it would be fun to share.  It has nothing to do with teaching, just my utter enjoyment of the movie Mary Poppins!  : )  Just a Spoonful of Sugar

School Supplies

So, I am completely addicted to reading teacher blogs. I've spent countless hours reading them since I first found them. I have talked about blogs now to all of my friends and posted to our school's facebook wall to check them out. I want to share and write more on my own, but feel intimidated. Hmmm..... Well, lets start here with my other addiction: school supplies. I love love love school supplies. I am even more of a fan of the Target dollar section and the amazing Dollar Tree. I'm pretty embarrassed by the pictures I am going to share, but feel that fellow teachers will understand. Soon I hope to share specific details for the plans for my purchases.
Oh my!
Not by the hair of our chinny chin chins! I love this felt hats I found at Micheals for $2. They will be a great addition to our week long study of the various Three Little Pigs stories. Our dramatic ending is for students to act it out.
I love Dr. Seuss. Check out these silly bands I plan to give to students to day they register with some sort of cute saying. Any suggestions?
Ahh....the new huge eraser I found at The Dollar Tree. We all make mistakes, but we can always start over.

Well, my hopes in making this a great first grade blog is on hold for a bit. I had my gall bladder removed this last week and really underestimated the recovery rate. I'm finally feeling okay now on day 5. However, its July and there is so much to do!! I am in my last semester to earn my masters, have a trip to North Dakota to celebrate my grandma's 90th birthday, and have a classroom in shambels. (I was told in March that they needed me to move to Kindergarten. After much dismay, I accepted the idea and started packing. Well, fortunately and unfortunately, the week before school got out, I was told that I was going to stay in 1st.) Yay, but what a mess. So I admire all you teachers out there who are working hard and starting to get ready. I am inspired and anxious. I am pumped though to now be part of this great community and to learn from all of you!! Thanks to my 3 followers. Maybe one day I will have more.

Monkey Palm Tree

So, I wanted to share something from my classroom, but since I am new to teacher blogging, I haven't take pictures of much. I do have a picture of my Accelerated Reading Palm Tree (bought at The School Box). My students did well "climbing the tree." I will have to make a new plan for it next year though because our school will not be doing AR. Any ideas?

I have taken the month of June off from school, but plan on getting back to business in July. I have seen so many wonderful ideas on all the new found blogs that I must get started. I feel behind and anxious. I'm very excited though to learn more!

Wow! So I was researching Core Curriculum Standards when I stumbled upon a blog by a first grade teacher. They led me to spend almost 2 hours, checking out and following 20-25 more blogs. How will I read them all and remember all their great ideas. It really makes me feel like I need to get on the ball and start working in my classroom. Yikes. July sounds good.

This blog was created to show a more positive and happier side. I apparently am not very good and writing about whats good and only seem to want to write when things are poor. So here goes..... the beginning to the blog called....Makes me smile.

Things that make me smile lately....

~finding a new great song
~getting a hug from a student (especially ones that rarely show it)
~even better, getting a gift of dental floss from a student because she knows that I love it. Plus a sticker of a frog flossing that says "I love to floss"
~flossing ; )
~taking a bite of tiramasu
~watching NCIS and now Bones
~finding great deals at a yard sale
~playing with my friends' kids (and being referred to as Aunt Ashley)
~talking to my parents
~spending time with my best friends
~Addison Road in concert

I hope to add more and way more often. I am very blessed and thankful for the gifts in my life.
